A good (reasonably priced) cupcake has been a hard thing to come by here in Korea. The one place I knew with amazing cupcakes ended up closing a while back and I was devastated. Maybe I’m being a bit dramatic, but I was pretty bummed. So, It seemed like fate when my dog and I happened to pass by a cupcake place I had never noticed before.
Creamfields has this Southern California hipster vibe that makes me feel like I’m right back in LA (if only for a few hours). The interior has a nice open feel with its glass walls, white chiffon curtains and open kitchen. The space is occupied with marble gold-trimmed tables, fresh flower arrangements and California inspired framed posters. The cafe is riddles with unique little details and quirky pop culture references, from “Cake by the Ocean” napkins to “Pick me, choose me, love me” cup sleeves. In all honesty, it’s everything an Instagram obsessed millennial could hope for.
Anyhow, Creamfields makes some pretty awesome cupcakes. They have this balanced consistency between moist and dense cake. I usually prefer my cupcakes a bit more on the moist side, but I think these are bit of a compromise for people on both sides of the spectrum. As for the the frostings, they range anywhere from the creamy cream cheese type found on the earl grey cupcake to the surgery buttercream type found on the mint cookies & creme cupcake. Typically, desserts in Korea are geared towards appealing to Korean taste preferences which often results in desserts that lack the richness or sweetness they’re known for. While these are not 100% western style cupcake, they come pretty darn close.
What I really like about this place is that they are always changing up their cupcakes. So whenever you pop in, you’re almost always guaranteed to find a cupcake you haven’t tried before. Even if there are repeats, the design, toppings or even colors change on a daily basis. Also, they have a couple of other non-cupcake options like handmade pastel rainbow meringue cookies, rainbow marble pound cake, NYC brownies and even marshmallows.
Moving on to their drink menu… they offer a variety of coffees, organic teas and even beer and champagne. Personally, I really enjoy their iced Vienna coffee. However if you only have once chance to visit the cafe, I recommend trying out one of their specialty drinks: the Monster Latte, Harlem Shake or Skinny Red Lemonade.
I’m a bit obsessed with their “Monster Latte.” This is an iced caffe latte topped with a thick whipped cream and garnished with a handful of handmade pastel rainbow meringue cookies. I’m not really a fan of meringue cookies, but these are soft, crisp, just a tad chewy and let’s be honest… absolutely beautiful! These cookies are the perfect way to add a bit of sweetness (and color) to an ordinary cafe latte. Take a sip, take a bite… perfection!
Whenever I’m in the mood for something light, refreshing and non-caffeinated, I always opt for their “Skinny Red Lemonade.” It is to die for! The lemonade is made with real strawberries and freshly squeezed lemons. It’s sweet, tangy and makes you feel like it’s ok to scarf down that second cupcake.
Generally speaking, this cafe has definitely made it to my list of Seoul favourites. It has great drinks, tasty desserts, a fantastic ambiance and the staff is super helpful and nice. If you’re as indecisive as me, they are always more than happy to offer a recommendation (in English or Korean). So if you have a sweet tooth that needs to be appeased, definitely give this place a try.

I’m recently into lemonades and this will definitely be one of the places I would like to go when I visit Korea~~~ I like sweets that are not too sweet (lol does that make sense?!, accdg to your blog post though, I feel like Korea and sweets will be in my favor!)
