Dragon Ball: Heroes Rise Asia Tour has officially landed in Seoul, and this is definitely not your average pop-up. Instead of simply displaying pieces behind glass, the exhibition takes you through some of the most iconic moments in the Dragon Ball universe with life-sized characters, recreated scenes, interactive games, photo zones and digital missions. So naturally, I had to check it out.
Pokémon Starlight Paradise has arrived at Lotte World Mall in Jamsil, featuring an impossible to miss, giant pokéball sitting right in the middle of the lawn. The ball is actually a giant dome that you can walk through. And inside is one of the most whimsical Pokémon displays I’ve seen so far. Imagine a rainbow lit pond filled with glowing Magikarp lanterns and beautiful sky projections all across the entire ceiling of the dome. Truly an immersive experience.
There are a lot of essentials people tell you to bring to Seoul during the spring and summer seasons. Comfortable shoes, portable fans, a light cardigan for those chilly cafés. But if there’s one thing that actually changes your entire day here, it’s sunscreen. Not just applying it once in the morning, but having one you’ll actually use throughout the day. Whenever we travel, we always try to visit a museum and, lucky for us, Korea is chock full of them. And while the National Museum of Korea is definitely not one to be missed, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art has wonderful exhibitions and is located near the heart of downtown Seoul just down the street from Gyeongbokgung, making it a convenient stop on any itinerary.
BTS Festa is a yearly event organized by HYBE to celebrate the anniversary of BTS’ debut back in 2013. The event has grown in size and scale, becoming a genuine attraction, not just for BTS ARMY, but for tourists making their summer travel plans.
The Yeosu Nangman Pocha is everything that you could hope for from a Korean pocha night market. The signature red tents are lit up every night from 6 PM until 1 AM. That means the tents are filled with patrons enjoying everything from sushi and fried tempura to octopus and pork stir-fry well into the night.
There’s something about mythical creatures from Asian cultures that has be obsessed. From Bali’s barong to Okinawa’s shisa, I have a small army of handcrafted creatures adorning my shelves at home. And while there are a lot of interesting mythical creatures in Korean folklore, the haechi has always been my favorite and that’s kind of why I feel this cafe was made for me.
