Pompompurin’s Mandu Pop-Up in Seoul: Everything You Need to Know

Sanrio’s iconic golden retriever Pompompurin has opened his very own Korean dumpling shop in Seoul!

The Pompompurin’s Waa-ang Mandu Pop-Up (폼폼푸린의 와-앙만두) has taken over the 6th floor of Yongsan I’Park Mall’s Living Park, turning the space into an adorable little dumpling restaurant starring Pompompurin and his friends. The whole concept is based around 왕만두 (wang-mandu), those big, fluffy Korean steamed buns, and pretty much everything, from the displays to the merchandise, has been given a mandu makeover.

As a true mandu aficionado, this might be one of my favorite Sanrio pop-up concepts. This special pop-up is in celebration of Pompompurin’s 30th anniversary and it has a warm, retro Korean restaurant aesthetic complete with mandu steam baskets, menu-style displays and Pompompurin and his friends dressed up for their new jobs. Adorable!

The space isn’t very big but there are a few cute photo zones and little details you can’t help take pictures of. But let’s be honest, the merch is definitely the main draw. And this collection really commits to the theme. I’m taking about blind boxes, grip toks, bag charms, plushies, bag and figures all mandu restaurant inspired.

One of my favorite items was the DIY Mandu Set station, where you can pick a tray and any 3 colorful dumplings to fill it for 15,000 KRW. It’s one of those small interactive things that makes the pop-up feel more fun than simply walking through a shop and browsing the shelves. You get to pick your own combination whether it’s by color, character or (in my case) most appetizing. And then you leave with a tiny customized mandu family.

But if we’re going by popularity, the mandu blind boxes were literally flying off the shelves. Each box is priced at 8,900 KRW and comes with one of 7 characters dressed as a mandu and you can even link them all together for one long bag charm. And of course there are also all the different pushie bag charms that people were just piling into their shopping baskets.

And let’s not forget the exclusive capsule toy section because how could there not be one?! These were definitely a highlight because they didn’t have just a bunch of keychains, there were also mini squishies, magnets, figures, pouches and my personal favorite, ceramic chopstick holders.

There is also a special Waa-ang Mandu gift set you can receive if you spend ₩70,000 or more and follow the official Instagram account. The gift set includes wooden chopsticks, toothpicks a special entrance-coupon magnet and a Waa-ang Mandu shopping bag. But this gift is only available while supplies last, so if you’re a Pompompurin fan, I wouldn’t wait on it.

If you love Pompompurin or Sanrio and you’re in Seoul this week, you know where to go.
