‘Tis the season! If you thought Seoul’s winter nights couldn’t get brighter, think again. We’re about to see an onslaught of Christmas decorations as we enter the holiday season in South Korea!

Every year, multiple venues host Christmas markets from large to small. Most Christmas markets are only available for a day or two. Notable exceptions include the Le Grande Theater at The Hyundai and the Gwanghwamun Square Market! The holiday season’s already started, so here is our comprehensive list of Christmas Markets in Seoul.

European Christmas Market

  • When: December 7 – 8, 2024 (12 PM – 7 PM)
  • Where: Seoul Hansung University Station Exit 2 (Naver Map, Google Maps)

Every year, the European Christmas market brings together foods from multiple countries giving visitors the chance to sample dishes from across Europe. There’s food from Spain, France, Germany, and so much more. There’s also decorations and gifts to be found, but the food is definitely the star of the show; so bring an empty stomach.

There’s a lot of events going on this December in Korea from light shows to lantern festivals. For all the details, check out our December Travel Tips post.

Lotte’s European Christmas Market

  • When: Now – January 5, 2025 (10:30 AM to 10 PM)
  • Where: Lotte World Mall (Naver Map, Google Maps)

This year, the Lotte European Christmas Market is going all out with a Chanel ice skating rink, merry-go-round and massive outdoor Christmas market that’s open to everyone. There’s a long queue for waiting and this year there is a 2,000 KRW entry fee. If you purchase the ticket by the Lotte app, you can get a 2,000 KRW coupon which can be used onsite in the market itself.

Le Grand Theater at The Hyundai

The Hyundai in Yeoido has a visually stunning Christmas market pop-up on their 5th floor going on right now. While it may not be a “real” French Christmas market, there are plenty of places to take photos, shop for ornaments, and get tasty treats like chocolates, jams, and macaroons.

Romantic Christmas Market

  • When: December 20 – 31, 2024 (1 PM – 9 PM)
  • Where: Tteukseom Hangang River Park (Naver Map, Google Maps)

For the first time ever, the Tteukseom Hangang River Park will be hosting a Christmas Market. This one will feature stage performances, photo booth, food trucks and more. Check their website for more details.

Gwanghwamun Square Market

Every year, Seoul hosts the Lantern Festival in December to celebrate the winter season. The Gwanghwamun Square market will be returning in 2024 with street food, handmade goods, decorations and gifts for sale. Last year we picked up a nice little hoodie for Uyu at the dog clothing booth. It’s absolutely worth checking out if you’re in Seoul for the holiday season.

Nodeul Island Christmas Market

As part of their Christmas festivities, Nodeul Island will be hosting a Christmas market from the 21st to the 25th (with a break on Monday the 23rd). There’s also several other events and pop-ups like Santa’s Workshop, Christmas concerts, and small Christmas themed classes for families and couples.

Everyone has their own individual travel experience in South Korea. But everyone also needs the basics to get around and stay connected during their trip. Check out our helpful links below.
