Whether or not you’re ARMY, we have officially entered the BTS era together. And there are so many ways to experience BTS in Seoul right now. Pop-ups, exhibitions, merch drops and even entire department store takeovers. But a sunset cruise on the Han River with BTS playing in the background? That one feels different.

The Spotify x BTS “SWIMSIDE” cruise might be one of the most uniquely curated events of this entire comeback era (so far) and I actually managed to snag an invite. The SWIMSIDE cruise was part of a larger global campaign between Spotify and BTS celebrating their comeback album “Arirang.” For three nights only (March 27–29, 2026), selected fans boarded a themed cruise departing from Yeouido Hangang Park and sailed along the Han River.

Each evening had three cruise times between sunset and night, basically the most aesthetic time you could possibly be on the river. But here’s the thing… this wasn’t a concert. BTS wasn’t physically there. And somehow… that wasn’t the point. If the BTS pop-ups around Seoul feel high-energy and, this cruise felt like the opposite. It was slower, intimate and more atmospheric.

You’re on a boat, the city lights starting to come on, the Han River reflecting everything and BTS playing through the speakers as you move through it all. It leaned heavily into the feeling of the “SWIM” concept from “Arirang,” fluid, reflective and a little nostalgic. The experience was simple, but intentionally so. Here’s what was included.

Naturally, the evening revolved around a curated BTS playlist centered around “Arirang,” where we could just enjoy the album and vibe with our favorite tracks. But before even boarding the ship, the event began with an amazing fireworks display synced to “Body to Body,” “Hooligan” and “Swim.” Honestly, it was one of the prettiest shows I’ve seen in a long while.

When we boarded the ship, we were gifted a bag with limited-edition Spotify x BTS merchandise including a tumbler, towel, waterproof cellphone pouch and my personal favorite, a handwritten letter from all the members of BTS. And later on in the evening we were also given a QR code to scan to receive a special recorded voice message from BTS exclusively for passengers on the SWIMSIDE cruise. It was such a nice personal touch!

On the second floor we got to enjoy signature themed drinks created for the event. There was black lemonade, hibiscus punch iced tea and my drink of choice black sesame milk tea. There was time to mingle, sip on our drinks, listen to the album and take photos. There was even a time set aside for us to gathered together to watch the “Swim” music video and sing along. It was so much fun! And to be perfectly honest, everyone wanted to sing more.

And finally we got to enjoy the amazing view from the top deck before disembarking. Everything felt cohesive, like you were stepping into a very specific moment of their comeback story rather than just attending an event. Seoul does pop-ups constantly, but this felt like something else entirely. It wasn’t about buying stuff or rushing through a space. It was about just existing in that moment on the river, in the middle of Seoul, during a comeback that already feels like a cultural reset.
