Inside the BTS ‘Arirang’ Pop-Up at HYBE Yongsan (Seoul Guide)

If you’re in Seoul right now, it kind of feels like the city is quietly (or not so quietly) orbiting around one thing… BTS! The kings of K-pop have officially made their comeback with their FREE concert at central Seoul’s Gwanghwamun Square. And with that, they have ushered in a whole itinerary of BTS-coded events all over Seoul.

And nowhere does that hit harder than at the BTS ‘Arirang’ pop-up inside HYBE Headquarters, a space that feels less like a merch store and more like stepping directly into a piece of their newest era. Compared to other pop-ups I’ve been to, this one feels intentionally stripped back with it’s open space layout, symbolic installations and mech displays that make you feel like you’re buying a piece of art rather than just basic k-pop merch.

That being said, merch for this album definitely feels closer to fashion/lifestyle with most items being either wearable or usable. I absolutely love how so many items reinterpret traditional Korean aesthetics with a modern twist. Personally, my must have item was the “Message Keychain,” but once I saw the merch in person, I had to grab a V t-shirt for myself and a JK t-shirt for my mom. Unlike previous collections, these sizes are ACTUALLY overfit which really sealed the deal for me.

Aside from the merch, what really stood out to me was how organized the pop-up was and how controlled the crowds were. Because everyone registers for a specific time slot, only 15-20 people are let in at a time. This left plenty of space to comfortably shop around, take videos, pictures and actually enjoy the vibe. Even the staff was friendly and laid back, allowing visitors to actually slow down and take in the space instead of rushing through it.

With it’s clean, simple, gallery-like vibe, this pop-up feels very intentional. Almost like HYBE wants fans to sit with this comeback moment, especially after such a long hiatus. So if you’re ARMY and happen to be in Seoul between now and April 12th, be sure to stop by!
