After returning to our pension for some much needed showers (all 3 of us), we felt a bit defeated by our less than “restful” beach day. All we really wanted was to have a nice quiet Jeju black pork dinner together, but it was late and the idea of driving around looking for a place that would accommodate us and our fur baby sounded like a little slice of hell. Fortunately, the amazing ahjumma who ran the pension swooped in to save the day!
Apparently her nephew owned a restaurant 5min away that specialized in Jeju black pork. Plus they had outdoor seating and were perfectly okay with us bringing Uyu. Although it was a bit late, he was willing to still seat us if we got there quickly, so we immediately got ready and hopped in the car.
While we were expecting a small local bbq restaurant, we soon found ourselves at a large two story restaurant with with a sleek modern design and tons of windows. The inside was nice, brightly lit and spacious with both floor and table seating. I would imagine it looks beautiful during the daytime with all the natural light flooding the inside. Outside, they had large patio with plenty of large picnic-like table seating. The weather was perfect for a nice peaceful dinner under the stars. The staff even lit a bunch incense to repel the mosquitos just for us.
Excited by our dumb luck and overwhelmed by the delicious options on the menu, we decided to order a set that would allow us to sample a bit of everything on their menu. We got a fantastic pot of kimchi stew (김치찌개) with tasty bits of back pork in it, some gochujang (고추장) salad, a grilled mackerel so well prepared that the meat just fell of the bones, 4 different cuts of black pork and a bunch of side dishes. The meal pretty much took up the whole table and everything was delicious.
The meal cost ₩70,000 for the both of us, which I admit is a bit steep, but given our circumstances and the quality of the meal… we really didn’t mind. The pork was really flavourful, well portioned and not too fatty. The staff was also super nice and didn’t make us feel rushed at all, even though we were pretty much the last people there. Everything was quite satisfactory and I really have no complaints. It was the perfect way to end the day, happy faces and full bellies.
