If you’re into clean vegan minimalist Korean skincare and you haven’t heard of Mixsoon… then you need to. I’ve had a few chances to try out their products (with no any strings attached) and I suspect they’ll be popular in the K-beauty scene.

Mixsoon’s whole approach to skincare is focusing on ingredients that actually benefit your skin. So their list of ingredients is short and, sometimes, there’s only one! That also means vegan & cruelty-free products without any alcohol or artificial fragrances. Perfect for acne prone skin like mine. So, where to start?

ESSENCE LAYERING”

Layering essences are a popular skincare “secret” in Korea. The key is to use essences that target different skin concerns. If you’re not well-versed in the world of Korean skincare, this might be a bit of an overwhelming and, possibly, expensive task.

I like the streamlined process with Mixsoon’s Layering Set. Each essence had a specific purpose that collectively work towards improving your skin’s overall health. Each one has a thin consistency, like water, so they’re super lightweight. So if you’re new to Korean skincare or just looking to target certain skin concerns, this is a good place to start.

Mixsoon Bifida Ferment Essence

Adding bifida is helpful for damaged skin barriers. And with the Bifida Ferment Essence, it’s 100% Bifida Ferment Extracts. You’ll actually find this ingredient in a lot of repair serums used to treat damaged skin.

Mixsoon Galactomyces Ferment Essence

The Galactomyces essence is meant to help with discoloration, pigmentation, and even out overall skin tone. It might not be a problem if you’re in your twenties, but it’s certainly a concern as you get older. There’s proteins, essential minerals, vitamins, and organic acids to help brighten and hydrate your skin.

Mixsoon Centella Asiatica Essence

The Centella Asiatica Essence is made with extracts grown on Jeju Island. Other K-beauty products use it to soothe and hydrate acne prone skin. It’s lightweight so it’ll get the job done without clogging your pores.

Mixsoon Bean Essence

The Bean Essence is popular for helping achieve that glass skin look. It actually has two main uses. The first is, well, as a hydrating essence. After applying your toner, you pat it into your skin and continue with the rest of your skincare routine. If you’re layering your essences, I would use this as the last step. Since the formula is made with fermented soybean extract, the texture is really similar to Japanese nattō. It’s sticky to the touch, but once you apply it, it’s really smooth and hydrating.

The second way is to use it as a gentle exfoliator right after cleansing. The pomegranate extract acts as an exfoliant. Then after exfoliation, you can just wipe your face with a toner pad and continue with the rest of your skincare routine. It’s really good at removing dead skin cells and sebum and is gentle enough to use daily. But honestly, like with all exfoliators, I would only recommend using it like this 1-2 times a week, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Mixsoon Soybean Milk Pad

I feel like these soybean milk pads deserve an honorable mention. Though they have nothing to do with essence layering, they have everything to do with giving your skin a little bump in moisture, glow and skin barrier repair. Each pack comes with 3 pads that you place on your face kind of like a sheet mask. Lots of Korean makeup artists like to use these to prep the skin before applying makeup. Korea has really harsh dry winters, so these definitely help me whenever I need a little hydration boost.
