Everything We Ate on Our Yeonnam-dong Snack Tour

My mom recently came by for a visit and she loves food almost as much as I do. So as a fun and easy one day itinerary, I prepared a mini tour of 6 of my favorite snack spots for her to try. If you’re looking for some food inspo for your next Korea trip, here’s a great place to start. Let’s go!

Eat Like BTS at Yoojung Sikdang

Back when they were still trainees in Sinsadong, BTS was known for visiting one restaurant above all others. Fast forward to today and Yoojung Sikdang (유정식당) is one of the most famous hole-in-the-wall restaurants in Seoul. Located just a few blocks away from the old Big Hit Entertainment building, this is where the members of BTS used to frequently eat during their trainee and rookie days, sometimes up to 3 times a day.

Sink Your Teeth into Some Korean Tile Bread

The Gyeongbokgugn area is a treasure trove of snack spots and if you don’t know where to look you might miss out on some seriously delicious eats like these adorably shaped giwa-ppang (기와빵) aka ’tile bread’ from a tiny little spot called Play Seoul (서울구경).

An American Thanksgiving in Seoul

There’s nothing that brings a smile to my face faster than a Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings. I’m talking turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits and probably a pumpkin pie for good measure. And now, thanks to an ever-growing expat population, I never have to go a year without Thanksgiving in Seoul.

Authentic Japchae Recipe (Korean Stir-Fried Glass Noodles)

Japchae is basically Korean stir-fried noodles typically made with mixed vegetables, meat and sweet potato glass noodles. My family absolutely loves it, but then again, most Korean families do! It’s something that’s always included in holiday feasts like Lunar New Year and Chuseok. And with Chuseok right around the corner, I thought I’d share my recipe with you.

Celebrate Bok-nal with a Hot Bowl of Samgyetang in Tosokchon

Samgyetang is a traditional Korean ginseng chicken soup. It consists of a whole chicken stuffed with garlic, glutinous rice, jujube and ginseng and cooked in a flavorful broth. It’s believed to help refresh the body and renew ones stamina. So naturally, it’s probably one of the most popular dishes to eat during bok-nal.

Knock Knock K-Food Festival with RJ of BT21

The city of Seoul has really ramped up their festival line up for the summer this year. In fact, it seems like there’s always something going no matter what day of the week it is. This rings especially true for the Gwanghwamun Knock Knock K-Food Festival that will be running until the end of 2024.

Jeju Goes Cottage-Core with Cafe Gyulkkot Darak

If there’s one thing you’ll find in abundance in Jeju, it’s groves of tangerine trees. They’re everywhere on the island, filling the air with a scent of citrus when the fruit are in season. When we drove up to Cafe Gyulkkot Darak, the thin strip of road leading up to the cafe was already filled with haphazardly parked cars. A few girls dressed in the “Korea travel aesthetic” were leaving through the front door as we made our way in.
