Suwon Starfield Library: Travel Tips & Tricks

There’s a new king of instagramable libraries in Korea. And just like the last one, it’s a Starfield Library. Unlike the last one, it’s not in Seoul. There’s nothing wrong with the Starfield Library in COEX. It’s a nice place to spend a lunch break or just chill between shopping sprints at the COEX mall. But, anything done once can be done better.

Or, at least bigger. By like double. Literally.

The newest Starfield Library in Suwon is massively huge clocking in at 4 floors with much more seating and more cafes, restaurants and open seating for visitors to relax or pose for pictures at. It’s a photographer’s dream and a Instagram husband’s nightmare, but there are a few things every traveler needs to know before they plan their visit.

What is the Suwon Starfield Library?

The Starfield Libraries are libraries set inside Starfield malls which are a branded chain of massive mega malls in South Korea. As the name implies, they are libraries boasting impressive quantities of books, comics, and magazines for visitors to use at their leisure. And, being the newest one, the Suwon Starfield Library is the biggest and maybe best one… at least for now.

The first floor has books and recent magazines as well as e-readers and study desks open to the public. There’s also an open stair-seating arrangement perfect for getting some reading done. Most of the books in the unreachable sections of the library are decorative boxes, so you won’t be asking any librarians to risk life-and-limb getting them.

Since the library is four floors, there are four times as many visitors posing for photos at different parts of the library. The majority are on the 1st floor of the library (which is the 4th floor of the mall) at the main entrance. But, the photos taken from the upper levels are impressive as well.

Where is the Suwon Starfield Library?

The Suwon Starfield Library is located in the Suwon Starfield Mall which is located just outside Hwaseo Station on the no. 1 line just outside of Seoul. Just to reiterate, the Suwon Starfield Library is located about an hour outside of Seoul in the city of Suwon. The easiest way there is to travel to Sindorim Station on the the no. 1 and 2 lines and then take the no. 1 line straight to Hwaseo Station.

From the subway station, exit through exit no. 1 and head straight until you reach the stairs leading down to an underground street crossing. Follow this path for about 2 blocks and you’ll see the mall on your left. Cross the street and the crosswalk and you’ll be right there.

Once you’re inside the mall, you can use the escalators or elevators to head to the 4th floor. The Suwon Starfield Library is located in the center of the mall and impossible to miss.

Is the Suwon Starfield Library worth visiting?

Yes, assuming you’ll be spending some time in Suwon and the library is one of your stops. There are lots of great places to explore in Suwon including the Hwaseong Fortress as well as the Hwaseong Haenggung Palace.

On the other hand, if you’re interested in a truly fun shopping experience with your four-legged family, the Suwon Starfield Mall is probably the most dog-friendly mall in Korea at the moment.

Does Your Dog Like Books?

With the exception of most restaurants and cafes, the majority of the Suwon Starfield Mall is incredibly dog-friendly. So much so that they offer free dog-stroller rentals to visitors. Add in a dog-friendly restaurant, pet-relief station, dog-friendly stores, and a rooftop garden built specifically with dogs in mind and it’s the perfect combination.

Located on the 5th floor, Vinyl offers a unique experience and a view of the Suwon Starfield Library. For 18,500 KRW, visitors get a drink of their choice, headphones, a vinyl record player, and access to a staggering collection of vinyls. It is a vibe, and one worth checking out if you have the time.

Take in the View from the Top

The Suwon Starfield Library extends from the 4th floor of the Suwon Starfield Mall to the 7th. While most visitors will flock to the 4th floor, it’s worth visiting the 7th floor first. The view from the top down lets you look at the entire library at once and there are plenty of seats around the entirety of the library.
