A Disney Halloween Bridal Shower

I come from a household of pretty enthusiastic Disney nerds. So when the time came to throw me a bridal shower, my mom and sisters knew exactly what to do.

Halloween and Christmas are my favorite times to go to Disneyland. I love the decor, ambiance, but most importantly… the seasonal treats! My goal was to try as many seasonal foods as my stomach could possibly handle. In hindsight, this probably wasn’t the best goal for a bride who needs to fit into a very unforgiving wedding dress the following weekend. YOLO… am I right?!?

We started our eating expedition at Frontierland with some Sour Watermelon Churros. They have a subtle watermelon flavor with a slight sour bite at the end. What I enjoyed most about them was the cute edible glitter sprinkled all over them. We kept getting little stars stuck to our lips.

In a desperate attempt to escape the heat, we moved on to Critter Country to bask in the air conditioning of the Winnie the Pooh ride. This of course brought me to Poohs Corner, where I picked up a Dia de los Muertos Minnie Mouse Rice Krispy Treat and a Poison Apple Cake Pop. While they both looked incredibly cute, I was totally captivated by the poison apple. I’m such a sucker for anything Snow White.

Thoroughly fueled by sugar, we finally went on our first ride, the Haunted Mansion. This is my all time favorite ride. Sure it gave me nightmares as a child, but I’m a stronger person for it (I assume). Anyhow, from about mid-September to early January, the mansion has a Nightmare Before Christmas makeover. It’s seriously the best reason to go to Disneyland.

If you’re lucky, like we were, you might even get to meet Jack and Sally in the… flesh? I had purchased the cutest Oogie Boogie plushie while waiting to take a picture with them, but when I pulled it out, Sally freaked out and started running around screaming. Then a very towering Jack Skellington hovered over me and told me to get that crap out of here. Well, not in those words, but the sentiment was there. I thought he was joking, but he seriously waited for me to put it in the bag. Never underestimate the commitment of Disneyland characters.

After that crazy little encounter it was time for lunch! So we stopped by the Stage Door Café. We shared an order of fish n’ chips and chicken nuggets, but most importantly, we got our paws on the Campfire S’Mores Funnel Cake. This funnel cake comes topped with chocolate-chile ganache and toasted marshmallow sauce, garnished with graham cracker crumbs and crushed peanut butter candy. It’s super delicious, but also really heavy. Definitely a dessert to share with a few people.

Thoroughly stuffed, we walked around the park a bit and took some pictures in front of the big Mickey pumpkin. Mind you, the park was insanely packed so there were long lines for absolutely everything. We must have seen about a dozen other bridal parties, not to mention it was Gay Day. Even the park cast members were surprised by the alarming amount of guests that day.

After that we moved on to California Adventure, which looked insanely cool after dark. Starting to feel the effects of my jet lag, we stopped by the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain for some Pumpkin Pie Lattes. They were terrible! They didn’t taste anything like pumpkin pie, or spice or even pumpkin. They were just unpleasant and I really don’t recommend them. Their Pumpkin Spice Caramel Chocolates, on the other hand, were little squares of heaven. You can get free samples there.

Like the Haunted Mansion, the new Guardians of the Galaxy ride also got a halloween makeover but only after dark. We were lucky enough to have gotten a fast pass for this and it was my first time to try it. I didn’t think there was any way to make it scarier than the Tower of Terror, but I was wrong. There were so many drops, I couldn’t tell if I was going up or down after a while. It was awesome!

Our final stop of the night was Cars Land. We stopped by the Cozy Cone Motel for some Slow Burnin’ Mac & Cheese Cones. These are Black Cauldron Cones filled with spicy red pepper mac & cheese topped with crushed chile-cheese puffs. The mac & cheese was amazing, but I wasn’t really a fan of the cones. They were pretty bland.

We also got some Spoke-y Cone Macarons which came filled with marshmallow buttercream and candy corn. They were almost too cute to eat, but I ate them and that’s probably what did me in. In truth, I wanted to eat more, but there simply wasn’t anymore room in my belly.

All in all it was a deliciously fun day and the perfect bridal shower. I’m pretty pleased with the amount of food I tried… now to fit into that wedding dress….
