Everything We Ate at the Lotte Christmas Market in Seoul

Lotte’s Christmas Market is back at the Lotte World Mall Square located just outside Jamsil Station on Line no. 2 and 9. And, this year, there’s a pretty big focus on food with a large number booths set up so you can snack for an hour or two while waiting to get on the carousel.

Be warned, there is way more food than any single visit can accomodate. There are traditional Korean snacks like tteokbokki, but there’s also more western dishes like sausages, baked chicken and so much more to be explored.

Let’s get straight to it. Here’s everything we ate at the Lotte Christmas Market in Seoul.

The Flat Churro-issant

The flat croissant was really popular in Korean last year and, in our opinon, it stuck around way longer than it should have. It was basically a soft sugar glazed cookie with the texture of a croissant. Now, however, we have a worthy successor to the flat croissant, the flat churro-issant. It’s essentially the flat croissant coated with cinnamon sugar and half-dipped in chocolate with Christmas sprinkles for a holiday flair. The only thing better than how absolutely massive this unit was is just how delicious it was.

The Combi-Curry Wurst

The combi-curry wurst had a delicious tomato sauce over sausage and crispy fries. The sausage was a particular highlight considering just how juicy and flavorful it was. And the fries with the tomato sauce was a departure from anything I’ve had before, and I’d glady go back for more. It was surprisingly low on the curry with the exception of a slight curry-spice flavor in the tomato sauce, but delicious nonetheless.

There’s so much to do in December that it would take us days to write it out in a list… so we did.

Check out our list of Things to do in Korea, December.

Mini Hotdogs

Mini might be a overstatement here. Each hotdog was a decent size and the craft sausages were worth waiting in line. The bread was a softer sourdough dinner roll rather than a traditional American hotdog bun with a bit of a crisp to it. It was good, but compared to everything else we ate, this ranked a bit on the lower side.

Suntory’s Christmas Highball

This biggest surprise of the market was the wide selection of holiday booze. This delicious cocktail in particular had cranberry juice, a slice of orange, blueberries, cranberries, a sprig of pine and a cinnamon stick for a deliciously Christmas-y concoction worth the entire trip itself.

Hot Chocolate with Rum

In the back corner of the Christmas market was a cholocate shop with packed with samples to try. They also had hot chocolate with rum, which comes out boiling hot. It wasn’t as sweet as we were hoping, but the rum certainly packed a punch. If we’re judging it on flavor, it was a bit lacking.

Butterscotch Beer

This might’ve been the low point of the day. The flavor was mostly in the sweet buttery cream on top with a regular beer hiding underneath. Yes, the cream was garnished with marshmallows and brown butter shavings, but it couldn’t save what was an ordinary beer. It wasn’t a bad beer, but we were hoping for a butter infused flavor in the drink itself. Disappointing unless you’re the type who enjoys whipped cream on their beer.
