Disney’s House of WISH Pop-Up in Seoul

Disney’s 100th anniversary pop-up, House of WISH is a large pop-up that started on December 16th and is running until January 10th. The massive event occupies two floors of the NOUDIT building outside of Tteukseom Station. It’s impossible to miss with a huge multi-faceted banner of iconic Disney characters including Asha and the wishing star. It’s particularly pretty to see at night when it’s lit up. And, just off to the side, is a huge wishing star that everyone walking by was immediately drawn to. Ourselves included.

EXPLORING DISNEY WISHES

Like all pop-ups in Seoul, we entered our phone number into a kiosk and waited our turn. Once we got our notification, we were whisked into an elevator that took us up to the 2nd floor of NOUDIT to start our journey.

Neither of us knew what we were in for, but the House of WISH lives up to its name. The first room is a beautifully imagined rendition of Walt Disney’s imagination giving birth to Mickey Mouse. And it’s here, that we met the first of many wishes being fulfilled with us taking the seat of Walt himself.

Each set in the pop-up recreates the moment from a Disney story where the main character has their wish fulfilled. From Snow White by the wishing well to Cinderella’s magical carriage, it’s a really fun way to re-explore iconic moments from Disney stories. Absolute standouts were a fun (but creaky) carpet ride over Agrabah and a beautifully lit rendition of the lantern scene in Tangled.

The entire pop-up can be explored in about 30 minutes with it all culminating in a Wish themed experience. We were each handed a “wish” that we pressed into a wall, setting off a small scene with the Wishing Star appearing before our very eyes. It sounds cheesy, but it’s actually a lot of fun.

WAITING FOR… EVER

WARNING. This Disney pop-up is not for the faint of heart. The pop-up opens at noon, but the on-site registration opens at 11:30 AM. We arrived at 1 PM on a Monday and were 300th (!) in line with 270 teams ahead of us. We walked around the neighborhood, got coffee and walked by the pop-up again at 3:30 PM to find that reservations were closed for the day.

After getting coffee, browsing shops, and hitting up yet another pop-up, we finally got our chance to enter. At 5:10 PM, over 4 HOURS after we’d initially arrived. The House of WISH is best visited as part of your day, rather than the main focus of it. We’d recommend stopping by at 11:30 AM and inputting your phone number. That way, you should be able to enter after grabbing lunch and doing a bit of light window shopping.

Where is Disney 100: House of WISH?

The pop-up can be found directly outside exit 8 of Tteukseom Station on Line no. 2. The reservation kiosk and pop-up entrance are directly under a huge banner for the movie WISH. The huge outdoor display for DISNEY 100 is actually the entrance for the NOUDIT building (not the pop-up).

The Disney-fication of Korea

It’s amazing to think that Disney has gone so long without an official presence in South Korea. With the first official Disney store opening in July (and the second in September), it looks like we’re finally getting official Disney merch and events in Korea. And, as is the norm in Asia, we have yet to see the release of WISH.
