What to See, Eat and Do in Korea (and Beyond)
Spring in Korea brings a well-earned thawing of the frigid winter weather with warm sunshine and cool breezes. And with warm weather come festivals, none better than the swarm of cherry blossom festivals throughout Seoul and Korea. We have our favorites and recommendations for visitors who want to make the best of their time in Korea.
It’s bound to happen at least once during a trip. One moment, we’re walking through the streets of Osaka taking pictures of gigantic crabs and the next I’m waking up in a hotel room wishing that my feet would just fall off already.
You can judge any city by their street food. Okay, maybe that’s an overstatement. But they’re certainly a window into the place you’re visiting. There are the skewered kebabs of Chiang Mai, delicious takoyaki in Osaka, and… well, questionable fare you might find in the streets of Hollywood.
But Seoul? *Chef’s Kiss*
Here are a few of our favorites that are more than worth the price of a plane ticket. No matter where you’re coming from.
We been to many beautiful libraries around the world, but none as captivating as the Ramyun (or Ramen) Library in Seoul. Okay, maybe I’m being a bit dramatic, but if you love ramen the way we do it is quite a sight to behold.
I really want to go Taipei. Primarily for the food. The street food scene, I mean… Asian cuisine is just so good. And from everything I’ve seen, it seems like heaven for people who want to eat their way through a city.
I really want to see that place in Taipei that part of Spirited Away is based off. I want to see shrines and ancient places that I can’t see anywhere else. I want to take in the culture. And the nightlife… not clubbing. But I guess that’s eating again.
If you’re traveling to Seoul, then the first thing you need to know is how to get there from the airport. There are two airports near Seoul, Gimpo and Incheon. Gimpo (GMP) used to be the main international airport and it’s located about 20 minutes outside of Seoul. Now, unless you’re flying in domestically or from Japan, you’ll most likely be flying into Incheon International Airport (ICN) which is significantly further from Seoul.
We were only in Yeosu for three days. THREE DAYS and we ate more food in those three days than we do most weeks. And that’s why we travel. To break out of our regular habits and try something new.
So without further ado, here’s part 2 of Everything We Ate in Yeosu.
Yeosu is an absolutely magical city with so much to see and eat that… well, we stuffed ourselves to the point of bursting. And then we ate some more.
It’s really the best compliment we can give to a city. Every restaurant had something amazing that we’d never seen before. Or maybe a beloved dish with a different interpretation we couldn’t wait to try. Or maybe something so weird and strange we just couldn’t help ourselves.
Whatever it was, we indulged. And this? This is everything we ate in Yeosu, South Korea.
Every winter, an ice skating rink is set up right outside of City Hall in Seoul. Skating at the Seoul Plaza Ice Skating Rink (서울광장 스케이트장) is one of the most anticipated activities of the season and rightfully so. Not only do you get to enjoy a winter sport right in the middle of the city, but it’ll only set you back 1,000 KRW per person (roughly 0.75 USD).
I’ve spent a lot of time this year talking with K-beauty brands and CEO’s, looking for the secret to healthy and youthful looking skin. While their answers and product recommendations varied a bit, the one thing that remained consistent was HYDRATION. So, I built my winter night routine around this information and the results have not disappointed.
No visit to a Disney park is complete without splurging on churros, waffles, or even the errant beer. And we’ve had some amazing snacks at Disney parks around the world. Who can forget the ham and cheese Mickey waffle in Shanghai? Or DisneySea and their cornucopia of flavored popcorns!?
Disneyland Paris has all the hallmarks of a traditional Disney Park. But there are so many things that set it apart. Amazing shops, quirks and foods that are worth indulging in to make the most of your time in the most magical place on Earth… in Europe.
