Korea has become quite well known for its pet cafes, especially among tourists. Dog and cat cafes can be found all over Seoul, but that doesn’t mean they are all worth going to. Areas that are heavily populated with tourists tend to have pet cafes that are less than enjoyable because they are over crowded, understaffed or not very well maintained. To any dog lover visiting Korea, I recommend Bau House located near 합정역 (Hapjeong Station). It’s ALWAYS incredibly clean and well staffed with a great variety of dogs. But, perhaps you live on the opposite side of the #2 Green Line or maybe being around a lot of dogs is too overwhelming; no problem! I found a fantastic dog cafe called Ellie House located near 역삼역 (Yeoksam Station).
Ellie House is a small dog cafe and due to its size, they mostly accommodate small dogs which makes it much more laid back than most pet cafes. They only have about four or five in-house dogs, including two adorable little Italian Greyhounds, but customers always bring in their own dogs for a visit so you always get to see new fluffy faces. They even have a little area set up with doggie chairs and lighting equipment, so you can take pictures of your dog. It’s also a great place to socialize your dog without overwhelming him/her. Sometimes I even like to go here to study, while my puppy gets some playtime in. With the cheerful pink and cream color scheme, comfy whicker chairs and sun soaked room it’s impossible not to feel the peaceful ambiance.
A coffee, tea or latte here will run you the usual ₩7,000~₩8,000, while you can grab a waffle to snack on for ₩ 3,000~₩4,000. You can even purchase on menu snacks to feed the dogs there or buy some yummy treats for your own furry companion. I’ll admit it is a bit pricey, but no more than the usual pet cafe. To be honest I don’t mind paying a bit more for a clean and cute environment.
If you’re feeling particularly spendy they also have a lovely little pet boutique with the cutest clothes and pet accessories. From frilly skirts, rhinestone studded collars and sequenced hats to elegant pet carriers, dog backpacks and plush beds they have everything a pampered pet could possibly want. The best part is that many things are actually very reasonably priced especially the hair accessories. Yesterday, I bought a doggie backpack, hat and hair bow for only ₩20,000! I can always pick up a couple of cute things to glam up my dog without worrying about putting a dent in my wallet.
It’s a bit of a walk from the subway station (maybe 10min), but it’s not too bad especially if you have company and it’s pretty easy to find if you follow my map. So, if you are ever in the area I really recommend checking this place out. I promise you won’t regret it.
