Seoul Grand Park Cherry Blossom Festival, Everything You Need to Know

The Seoul Grand Park Cherry Blossom Festival is one of the biggest cherry blossom festivals outside of Seoul. That’s right, the Seoul Grand Park festival is technically located outside the city of Seoul. And while that might sound daunting, it’s only 30 to 40 minutes outside of Seoul making it one of the most accessible festivals in Korea.

What is the Seoul Grand Park Cherry Blossom Festival?

The Seoul Grand Park Cherry Blossom Festival is a yearly event held on the lawn in front of the entrance to Seoul Grand Park. There’s food vendors and live performances, but it’s also a wonderful place to picnic or browse hand-made goods.

The main attraction, however, is the main street which encircles the entirety of Seoul Grand Park Lake. At the peak of the season, the entire road is lined with cherry blossom trees in full bloom on both sides. And, when there’s a strong enough breeze, you hear crowds of visitors gasp as showers of pink petals fly through the air.

Yes, there are crowds throughout the park due to the popularity of the festival. But, thanks to the sheer size of the park, it’s actually easy to get solo shots without anyone in the background

What is Seoul Grand Park?

While the name might imply otherwise, Seoul Grand Park is located in Gwacheon city in Gyeonggi-do about forty minutes south of Seoul. That being said, the scale of the park itself is massive. At over 9 million square meters total, Seoul Grand Park is home to hiking trails, gardens, forests, a massive lake, the Seoul Grand Park Zoo and the Seoul Land theme park.

Is the Seoul Grand Park Cherry Blossom Festival worth the trip?

While cherry blossom enthusiasts should definitely visit this festival, it’s location makes it a difficult recommendation. For anyone staying in Seoul, it’s a 1 hour 30 minute roundtrip that’s difficult to justify when the Yeouido and Seokchon Lake festivals are so much closer.

But, in our opinion, Seoul Grand Park’s cherry blossoms are beyond gorgeous. We’ve been to cherry blossom festivals all over Korea including Jinhae and it’s hard to compete with the vistas at Seoul Grand Park.

Better yet, spend a few hours at the Seoul Grand Park Zoo or the Seoul Land theme park to make a full day of the visit.
