We’ve found the most beautiful view of Seoul and you can only get it from the top of this gigantic helium balloon in the middle of the city. SEOULDAL (서울달), is a mash-up of “Seoul” and dal (moon in Korean) and it’s a giant moon-shaped helium balloon that takes you 130 meters into the air for an unbeatable aerial view of the Han River and Seoul’s gorgeous skyline.

Now this isn’t just a ride, it’s a chill, 15-minute escape from the hustle and bustle of the city where (if you plan it just right) daytime lights melt into golden sunsets and nights sparkle under city beams. We were lucky enough to have snagged a spot right at sunset. Even the balloon operator told us that there are only ever sunsets like these 2 times a month.

SEOULDAL is located in the middle of Yeouido Park which means you get a ridiculously beautiful view of the mountains to the south and the Han River to the north. And if you’re there are sunset (like we were), then you can watch the bright red sun dip behind the mountains and the city’s lights slowly come to life below.

Timing the balloon for sunset isn’t easy. We originally booked our time slot for 7 PM, expecting the sun to set sometime between 7:10 PM to 7:30 PM. Of course, we didn’t take the season into account and arrived the day of with Google telling us sunset would be at 7 PM. Luckily, our entire group arrived early and the balloon operator literally rushed us all into the basket so we wouldn’t miss it. We took off at 6:52 PM and stayed in the air for an extra 5 minutes just to enjoy the golden ambience.

We’ve lived in Korea for a long time and have had so many unique experiences, but this one is definitely in our top 5. The only thing that made it even better was the balloon operator who was so enthusiastic and wanted all of us to truly enjoy the experience. He made sure to rotate us, so we could all get a good view and even went around taking pictures for everyone. A 10/10 experience for sure! We highly recommend it.
