Best K-Beauty Sunscreens for EVERY Skin Type

Sunscreen is probably the most important step in my skincare routine, but to be honest that wasn’t always the case. I used to be one of those “Sunscreen in for the beach” kind of people. In fact, my skin care journey didn’t really start until after I graduated from university. So, it’s never too late to start taking care of your skin!

Recently I’ve fallen a bit down the sunscreen rabbit hole in search of the best sunscreens. And believe me, there are a ton to comb through! Luckily my efforts were not in vain and I actually did find a few winners. So if you don’t know where to start… here are my personal recommendations:

COMBINATION

If you have sensitive combination skin like me, or just don’t know what kind of sunscreen is right for you, Klairs All-day Airy Sunscreen is a great place to start. The formula is vegan-friendly, doesn’t leave a white cast and is in fact (as the name implies) super lightweight. The overall formula is actually so well balanced that both my husband and I love it, though we have totally different skin types. It also dries with a slightly dewy finish so your skin ends up with nice healthy glow.

DRY

My husband has dry skin and is incredibly picky about his sunscreens. His current go to is By Wishtrend – UV Defense Moist Cream. You’re likely to forget you applied it because of how quickly it dries off. It’s incredibly moisturizing without being overly heavy or greasy. As an added bonus, it is also known to help improve the appearance of fine lines.

The Beplain Moisture Sunscreen is lightweight, non-sticky and leaves no white cast. Pretty much everything you would want in a good sunscreen. As a mosturizing sunscreen, it works best for spring or dry summers to keep your skin healthy and hydrated.

OILY

While Rovectin – Skin Essentials Aqua Soothing UV Protector is technically suitable for all skin types, I think it’s better suited for those with oily skin. It’s not overly moisturizing and dries with a semi-matte finish, giving your skin a naturally brighter appearance (acting a bit like a sunscreen primer duo). It’s also lightweight, vegan-friendly and doesn’t leave any white cast (a requirement for all my sunscreen recommendations). If you have oily skin, this may be your holy grail.

SENSITIVE

COSRX- Aloe Soothing Sun Cream has been my go to sunscreen pretty much since it was released. For a long lime it was the only sunscreen that wouldn’t make my skin breakout. It hydrates, soothes and doesn’t leave any white cast. The only issue is that it can feel a bit greasy upon application, but if you give it time to absorb the initial greasy feeling goes away. It can feel a bit heavy during the incredibly hot and humid summers we have here in Korea, but any other time of the year… it’s golden!

MY SUMMER PICK

If you live in a hot humid climate then Isntree – Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel is the answer to your prayers. For me this sunscreen works as a summer alternative to COSRX’s Aloe Soothing Sun Cream. It contains Hyaluronic Acid to moisturize skin and Centella Asiatica Extract to soothe irritated skin. It’s also incredibly lightweight and glides over the skin so easily. The perfect sunscreen for summer!
