The Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), located at Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, has become a popular destination among locals and foreigners alike. Partially because it looks like a giant space egg in the middle of the city, but mostly because it hosts an array of cultural events, fashion shows, art exhibitions, conferences, you name it! We’ve been there dozens of times for one exhibit or another.
What’s cool about the DDP is that the the entire building was designed to be used as an art space, both inside and out. So twice a year they hold “Seoul Light DDP,” which is digital exhibit that’s projected across the entire surface of the outer wall of the west side of the DDP in a beautiful spectacle of music and color.
This year’s theme is “Digital Nature.” If you happen to be in Seoul right now, you can check out a unique light projection show by artist Miguel Chevalier called “Meta-Nature A.I.” Miguel Chevalier is famously known for his virtual and digital art that he uses to explore nature and its coexistence with “artificial nature” and from what I’ve seen… it’s absolutely captivating.
The show itself is free and open to the public from Thursday August 31 – Sunday September 10, 2023. It runs about every 30min from 8:00pm – 10:00pm, so definitely take a minute to check it out if you get the chance.
And if you haven’t had your fill of Miguel Chevalier, his first ever solo show in Seoul, “Digital Beauty,” is currently on display at Ara Art Center. The show goes until February 11, 2024, so don’t miss out!
