What to See, Eat and Do in Korea (and Beyond)
Welcome to autumn in Korea! You’ve made it through the hot, wet summer of 2025 and it’s all blue skies… at least once the temperature cools down and the humidity drops a bit lower. We might still have a bit of lingering summer heat, but September is the start of one of Korea’s most beautiful seasons.
July is one of the hottest months in Korea as the full force of the summer heat hits the country and we start to get weeks of heatwaves. It is also one of the wettest seasons in Korea thanks to the barrage of monsoons and summer storms that come in.
But, it’s also the summer music festival season with the WATERBOMB Festival and SBS GAYO DAEJEON along with cool events like the Squid Games pop-up in Gwanghwamun Square. And now, without further ado, let’s get into our tips for July in Korea.
There’s nothing worse than having your carefully laid travel plans rained out by heavy monsoons, but it happens. And, if you’re traveling in Seoul during the summer, it happens often.
So even if you’re set on walking through Gyeongbokgung Palace or sitting along the banks of the Cheonggyecheon Stream, it pays to have backup plans just in case the sky opens up on you. Here are 5 places in Seoul you can escape the rain.
One our favorite spots along the Cheonggyecheon this time of year is hidden beneath Gwanggyo Bridge where you can enjoy ‘Cheonggye Soul Ocean,’ a special media art exhibition that uses six projectors to display gorgeous visuals across 40 meters of the water’s surface. From whales swimming between your feet to Monet’s floral masterpieces floating down the stream, it’s an incredibly soothing way to unwind, especially after a long busy day or week.
I literally grew up on all things Disney. My brain is a vast, albeit useless, library of Disney facts and song lyrics. And to this day, I can’t step foot in any country that has a Disney Park without visiting it at least once. So it’s only natural that if there’s a Disney exhibit happening in Korea, I’m going to know about it and I’m definitely going to check it out.
Korea might be the home of webtoons, but there aren’t nearly as many events as you might expect. That’s why we were so excited to hear that the “Villains are Destined to Die” was being held for a month this summer in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
The webtoon officially ended back in 2024, but there are stilll lots of fans of the series and D&C Media, the studio behind the webtoon, still regularly holds fan pop-ups and releases merch at events like these about once a year.
Squid Game is the biggest thing in Seoul right now and to celebrate, the Seoul city government threw a HUGE Squid Game Finale Fan Event over the weekend. While it was open to the public, there was a special seated section for invited guests only (guess who got in?).
