What to See, Eat and Do in Korea (and Beyond)
Squid Game is the biggest thing in Seoul right now and to celebrate, the Seoul city government threw a HUGE Squid Game Finale Fan Event over the weekend. While it was open to the public, there was a special seated section for invited guests only (guess who got in?).
July is one of the hottest months in Korea as the full force of the summer heat hits the country and we start to get weeks of heatwaves. It is also one of the wettest seasons in Korea thanks to the barrage of monsoons and summer storms that come in.
But, it’s also the summer music festival season with the WATERBOMB Festival and SBS GAYO DAEJEON along with cool events like the Squid Games pop-up in Gwanghwamun Square. And now, without further ado, let’s get into our tips for July in Korea.
First, there was the Pokemon Camp takeover of Lotte World, then there was Lotte Pokemon Town 2025. And now, we have a special Ditto Garden at Boramae Park in Seoul, the perfect place to spend a late afternoon or evening while walking through a a pastel sea of dittos.
J-Hope’s ‘And What?’ solo exhibition is designed to shine a light on J-Hope as an individual and all the many hats he wears: BTS member. Rapper. Singer-songwriter. Record producer. Dancer. Style icon. The point being that no one label can define him and it leaves us all eagerly waiting for his next move… and what?
It’s that time of year again, time for BTS Festa! This year not only marks the 12th anniversary of BTS, but also all the members will finally be discharged from their mandatory military service. There will be cafe events, special celebratory projects, J-Hope’s final 2 concerts and, of course, 2025 Festa which will be held at Kintex.
So you’re BTS ARMY and coming to Seoul? Here are a few of my favorite spots that are definitely worth a slot on your next Korea itinerary.
BTS Festa is a yearly event organized by HYBE to celebrate the anniversary of BTS’ debut back in 2013. The event has grown in size and scale, becoming a genuine attraction, not just for BTS ARMY, but for tourists making their summer travel plans.
If you’re visiting Korea in May, dress for warm weather but make sure to bring a light jacket or sweater for the nights when the temperature drops low. there are quite a few night events and festivals in May, so you want to make sure your wardrobe is flexible.
Oido (오이도) is a coastal area located in Siheung City just southwest of Seoul. For those of us who live in Seoul, it’s a pretty popular destination for day trips and weekend getaways, particularly during the warmer months. Since it’s a pretty easy one and a half hour trip there by subway, it’s a great way to enjoy those costal city vibes without having to go all the way east to Gangneung or down south to Busan.
Pokémon Town 2025 has officially begun here in Seoul. This year’s theme is the “Metamong Project” and if you’re not familiar with metamong, it’s just the Korean name for Ditto. Once again Lotte World Mall is hosting the event complete with games, prizes, and, of course, photo zones. With so much going on, the event can be a bit chaotic and hard to navigate, so here’s everything you need to know including all the freebies that you can get.
It’s spring in Korea which means one of the most colorful and visually stunning festivals in Korea is just getting started. Of course, we mean the Lotus Lantern Festival which gets started on April 24th with a public exhibition of lanterns.
After almost reaching the point of no return (due to Covid), Myeongdong has risen from the ashes and has once again become a tourist hotspot. So we’ve complied a list of places we personally visit and feel would be worth your time and hard earned cash.
