I’ve received quite a few messages asking me what it’s like dating a Korean guy and what dating is like in Korea. There are a lot of stereotypes surrounding the “Korean Boyfriend.” If you look it up on YouTube you’ll seriously find a million results on the subject. To put it simply, it all comes down to culture. The success of a multicultural relationship will ALWAYS rely heavily on how much you’re willing to understand and embrace your partner’s culture and vice versa. And of course there’s always compromise. Speaking as someone who has quite a few Korean male friends, everyone is different. Whenever a relationship ends, however, it’s usually because of cultural differences.
My boyfriend and I have been together for over a decade. We were both born and raised in the US and have a lot of cultural similarities, so I can’t really give much advice on dating Korean guys. Korean dating culture, however, is something we’ve come to embrace and experience together.
